The new Pioneer vsx-820-k uses a Direct Energy design amplification concept on their vsx-820-k receiver, driving its 5.1 surround channel. It produces about 80 watts per channel, measured at 20 Hz to 20 kHz into 8ohms with a THD of 0.08%. The vsx-820-k features a load of goodies, like iPhone compatibility and Bluetooth connection for more flexibility and entertainment.

Audio sounds is enhanced with the vsx-820-k Advanced Sound Retriever, this is very useful feature for compressed audio format such as MP3, AAC and WMA content. The vsx-820-k is also equipped with MCACC that calibrates the system to near studio grade quality. This also applies with the installed speaker with all its proper correction to maximize performance.  The vsx-820-k supports Audio Return Channel (ARC) for the 3D HDMI audio pass-through and On Screen Menu in a nice full GUI color.

Behind the vsx-820-k, multiple connections are available to choose from, there are about 4 HDMI inputs, 1 Bluetooth adapter port, 2 assignable component inputs, 5 composite inputs, 1 USB port and 2 analogue inputs with 3 digital inputs including 2.1 Preouts and a Sirius Radio Port.

Performance-wise the vsx-820-kB doesn’t fall behind to the rest of the pack. Comprehensive instruction manuals breeze you through the setup. You can also use the Auto calibration if you’re not too sure what to do.

The surround sound performance of the vsx-820-kB was very impressive. It delivered a good deep bass response without over powering the main front speakers. The vsx-820-kB gave the front speaker a good dynamic range and a wide enveloping soundstage. But sadly, the picture quality isn’t as good or as rich in color as with other models, but overall it has good detail and resolution to it.
